Issue 0008
June 16, 2003

In this edition, we highlight Neil K. MacMillan. Neil is one of our two new Managing Editors here for the VoicesNet Visions Literary Journal and also a long time contributor to the VoicesNet community.

Later this month, in our next edition, we will be highlighting Melyssa Sprott, our other new Managing Editor.

In this edition, Neil first writes an article about something that is near and dear to him; something that inspires his poetry; Civil War Re-enactments.

Then we have an article by VoicesNet Founder and Contest Director Jeff Humphrey giving us updates on this Literary Journal, our Web Poetry Forum activities, our aspiring International Poetry Ambassadors program, and also our VoicesNet Anthology Quarterly Poetry Contest.

After that, our International Poet Profile also focuses on Neil, where we actually get to read some of his poems and learn more about him.

We also start a tradition in this edition that was suggested by one of our bright young staff members. We will include an inspirational quote in each edition. Scroll to the end of this page to see the first of these quotes.

Please enjoy the articles and news.

Shadows of History - A Look at Re-enacting the American Civil War - by Neil K. MacMillan

You may have seen me. I’m the guy with two days growth of beard and the blue uniform. Wire rimmed glasses frame my blue eyes and you’re as apt to see a guitar in my hands, as you are the rifled musket I carry into battle. A dark blue kepi covers blond hair that is getting ever whiter. I’m a candle ender, a writer a poet and husband. And I am a Civil War re-enactor.
