FALL LEAVES -- by Member: Westly Shaw, USA -- added: 11/14/2019 10:43:45 PM

I have had an incredible leaf drop to date Westly!. Fortunately I had cleared them along with other Fall debris the day before we received 8 inches of snow! The first of the year, but since joined with four more falls of snow! Bitterly cold too, but thankfully I do know the fallen leaves are not waiting for me when Spring arrives. I use a heavy duty, commercial back-pack leaf blower as raking them is not feasible. Large 2 acres area and too many obstacles, besides which, it is hard on an old fellow's body, to rake for days on end. It takes about five hours of leaf blowing to clear mine into holding areas, where I allow them to remain all winter. Once Spring returns, I use them to fertilise my flower beds, which I trench dig before planting. Saves me money and is a better fertilizer than artificial and helps retai m oisture for the plants, - though much more work involved! Keeps me fit and healthy - leastwise I think it does! Despite the numbers of leaves already fallen, I still have some hanging on the trees! Stubborn brutes! Lol. Come and give me a hand anytime Westly. Be warned, the pay is lousy - if any?! I like to watch others work! Lol. Ciao Rhymer.

Yep, you send shivers up my spine, and put goose bumps on my neck reading this Westly! Why? Because it is an all too familiar sound in the neck of the woods where my wife and I live! Yes, that's correct Westly. We have a pack of Coyotes that roam our neighbouring forested land. A Fox too, whose footprints I often see close to our house - we've three cats that are bold but not too smart - my opinion only I hasten to add! Lol. I've also seen a Bobcat and a black bear who left its footprints in the snow, all through my two acre garden- last year. He too was out hunting, but neither made any noise! When the bear went through, the coyotes stoped their howling, until he'd gone on his way! Smart too they are! But truth to tell, even though the sounds I hear in the dark, can send shivers up my spine, in a perverse way, I enjoy their sound, for it is evidence they stil survive! No church bells but train whistles and an occasional owl too. Now they comfort, rather than scare! Fondest as always. Rhymer.
