Two Poems from our Animals Poetry Collection

Meeting

Author: Mora Ipekon

Poem:
Meeting

I halt and gasp for breath in awe.
Your mighty figure!
My heart races,
I'm afraid,
I hope you will go away.
And yet
I want to stretch my hand,
touch you
to feel the strength
I sense.
You turn your head
so calmly
and spend a moment
looking at me.
And I meet your gaze...
And I tremble...
How wonderful you are!
You take the first step.
With such magnificent grace
your antlers disappear into the dusk.

Sonnet for a snake

Author: Jessica Rankin

Poem: Sonnet for a snake

Slipping
Sliding
Always watching
Dangerous beauty
I think i'm in love
Cold eyes
I'm stunned
These are more than butterflies
Time rattles by
I think i'm in love
Nothing can change this
Nothing can save me
Nothing can stop me
I think i'm in love
Curled on my wrist
Twist around my neck
I sense our connection
I think i'm in love
The gods ensouled magic
In your serpentine form
Slipping and sliding
I think i'm in love
