Two Poems from our Animals Poetry Collection

The hawk

Author: Amber Marley

Poem:
The hawk

Spread your wings and fly
You, master of the sunlit sky
Take your approach as you demand
Oh, king of all you command
Dive into the ocean's roar
Graceful as you upward soar
Show off your immaculate shine
As the sun glistens upon your spine
With all power you control
Fearful creatures down below
How magnificiently you abound
Above all things in the air and on the ground
You fly as if you own it all
My astounding and alluring hawk

Simple Instinct

Author: Sam Jacques

Poem: Simple Instinct

The mind, constantly intertwined
with the furious threads of intake,
but sharp.
Tangled by shooting
sparkles of inspiration,
scattered with random thought.
But the mind is sharp,
smoothed into a streaked
red ball by single
and precise decision.
Instinct.
This mind does not slow
to consider,
it has instant reaction
and knows its decision is right.
True knowledge is the knowledge of instinct.
The simple mind of an animal.
