Two Poems from our Babies, Baby Showers Poetry Collection

LITTLE VALENTINA

Author: Bernita Williams

Poem:
LITTLE VALENTINA

Today, we saw your first picture.
You were floating in a fluid sac.
You curled your fist and moved your leg, dancing?
Has mom been singing a lively song to you?
There is a rhythm in that picture.
Did you join her in the words?
We did not know until today whether frilly dresses and dolls or baseball hats and scooters would be in store for you.
Now we know from this technologic miracle.
For months you lie warm and fluid, waving now and then or moving your legs to music.
What will you be?
What will you do, little one, in years to come?
Sing? Dance?
Join dad on the court to snag a basket or two, or race him down some ski slope.
Join mom as she dances, making a perfect duo.
Whatever you do, whatever you become when you leave your safe heaven, your beautiful picture of today is of wee Valentina getting ready to make her debut.
She will never be quite so secure as now, where she waves or kicks and tells the world who she really is.

A BABY HAVING A BABY

Author: Cindy Huff

Poem: A BABY HAVING A BABY

She is a baby having a baby, she does not understand what she has done.

She has no idea about motherhood, but she thinks
it might be fun.

Like a doll that she can play with, she can put the baby away when she is through.

She is a baby having a baby, and does not know the first thing to do.

The baby is growing inside her, and she is feeling queasy and ill.

She wants to got to the doctor, so he can give her a pill.

A pill to change the way she feels, because she does not know.

She is a baby having a baby, watching her stomach grow.

She does not have any shame, she is too young to realize.

Of course the father has left her, which comes as
no surprise.

She is a baby having a baby, a baby who does not stand a chance.

As she eats hot fudge sundaes, reading true romance.
