MY MIRACLE

Author: Daniel Tichota

Poem:
MY MIRACLE

In July 2001, my miracle began,
as I gently caressed my wife with my hand.
Through all the trying and a sudden loss,
all the prayers we took to the cross.
God had heard and now answered our cry,
then through a simple test, made our spirits fly!

“I’m pregnant!” she says with a smile on her face,
reflecting so brightly God’s soft touch of grace.
The excitement we have as we tell our friends,
the challenges we embrace, knowing the road bends.
All taken in stride and worth all the pain
to be in this place receiving great gain.

Weeks pass by turning to months
and I the father feel like a dunce.
Knowing nothing about raising a child
I study and read, trying not to go wild.
Will it ‘come to me’ as I’ve heard it said?
Time will tell; I go to bed.

Trips to the doctor, bones that are tender,
a decision made to not know the gender,
The stirs in the night, the kicks in the tummy,
the trips to the store to buy something yummy,
They all take their place on the road to birth
as my beautiful wife grows in her girth.

The day has come; the contractions won’t cease
yet somehow she finds a gentle peace.
In expectation we drive down the road
with overnight bags in the back quickly stowed.
To the hospital room where life will take place
and we’ll finally see our child face to face.

On April 19th her labor is done
and I have the privilege of holding our son.
As I hand him to her and she embraces him too,
I see just what a prayer can do.
This is my miracle, my gift from above
the ones I vow I will always love.

THE BABY CRIES

Author: Madison Sosa

Poem: THE BABY CRIES

The baby won’t stop crying!
I have tried everything I can!
I put him in his bouncy thing,
And put him near a fan!

I gave him to his mother,
So he could drink from her breast.
I sang to him and rubbed his belly!
But he will not rest!

I bounced him on my lap,
I changed his diapers and clothes.
I wiped his chin,
And even blew his nose!

The baby is quieting down,
He is falling fast asleep.
He is now entering dreamland,
And counting out his sheep.

Look at him so peaceful,
Just like in a lullaby.
I like to sit and watch him,
And listen to silence roll by.
