Two Poems from our Basketball Poetry Collection

BUZZER BEATER BLUES

Author: Benjamin Steiner

Poem:
BUZZER BEATER BLUES

I missed the last shot of the game,
For shame, for shame, for shame.
You can give it all you got,
But alas, you missed the last shot.
All game your team has fought,
But you denied them what they saught.
They all pat you on the back,
But it feels harmful as a tack.
Even though you have taken a fall,
You still pick up your ball.
And move forward all and all.

MURDERER

Author: Michel Ghobrial

Poem: MURDERER

Murderer, she screamed as I got up.
she kept crying and she wouldn't stop
She ran in her room and locked her door.
"Are you mad, baby? .....I am so sorry I won’t' mistreat you anymore."
"you know I love you, tell me what wrong I've done"
I waited for her to open the door, but she never did.
she started talking, but to someone other than me
I can't hear her clearly. "Baby what is wrong? ...please tell me"
I looked around as I saw a man
running with a bloody knife in his hand
What is going on, I don't understand.
The blood crawled toward my feet.
I walked backward and I stumbled upon a seat
I got up "where did he go?" he disappeared . . .
"baby its ok . . . open the door . . . he ran away"
I heard sirens . . . "the police are on his way!"
She opened the door with eyes filled with tears.
" where you going get back here"
She ran into the kitchen and went to her knees.
held his hands and said don't leave me . . . please
"Oh my God is he ok?" I asked nervously
She didn't answer so I asked "WHO IS HE?"
she screamed my name and kept on crying
I looked in his eyes . . . it was me dying
