THE CELTICS PRAYER

Author: Henry Vincent

Poem:
THE CELTICS PRAYER

Hail Larry who sets the pace
And goes to the basket with ease
For if he’s fouled before he shoots
He’ll take the two freebees

His teammates are ready for his every move
He seems to know all in their minds
The defense is set determined to stop him
With you or three at a time

He pumps and fakes then gives up his shot
As teammates roam the floor
He finally springs open and hits a three pointer
As fans call out for more

He jumps and dives for every loose ball
He’s constantly on the floor
With off balanced shots
And creativity
Careful, he’ll sneak in the back door

His on court awareness
And unselfish play
Makes the game look easy
Play after play

And with time running out
On the game clock
His name in the crowd could be heard
Give him the ball that superstar player
The one called – Larry Bird

UNTITLED

Author: Sabrina Alexander

Poem: UNTITLED

It's basketball season once again,
playing hard as I can,
getting a break every now and then,
and trying to block out the noise of the screaming fans.

It's basketball season once again,
nearly dying, but yet playing very hard to win.
People on the sideline screaming my name,
feeling nervous and excited, this game wasn't the same.

I started steeling balls, getting the fouls, shooting the ball and scoring,
suddenly I felt all the excitment pouring,
at the end of the game the score was fifty-eight to twenty-nine,
I was speechless and my face began to shine.

The game was now over and done,
and for the first time this season we had won.

It's now the end of the season,
but it felt like the beginning for some reason.
I didn't care, I was just waiting for the next season to begin,
and for anyone who ask, basketball season will come again.
