Two Poems from our Birthday Poetry Collection

BRED TO BE READ

Author: William Tatum

Poem:
BRED TO BE READ

  A group of friends
from diverse ends
were held against their will;
their strength to speak
was just too weak,
so they lay mum and still.

Their muted state,
a short lived fate
would soon be recompensed,
as they found strength
with growing length
until dialogue commenced.

At first, one word,
then few were heard
among the tiny crowd,
but when it grew,
as many do,
the collective spoke aloud.

It's well to say
they hailed the day
the keeper set them free.
They flowed and swirled
and "out" they hurled
for all the world to see!

Once they were freed,
they all agreed
their mission was the same;
to be well read
while joyfully said,
embodied in one name.

They took the flanks
among the ranks
to proudly blow their horn,
and filled the stage
upon their page-
Behold! a poem was born!
