I prodded my conscience
Into static submission
For all its haunting
And interminable intrusions
I’ve grown weary, suspicious
Of what it’s hastily harnessed
What bliss it’s dismissed
Consigned to the abyss
In dreams dispelled
In the night’s folds of darkness
In the arms of temptation
In the eyes of another
In a world just beyond
The world we have known
While our lives amble on
Without pause, till they pass
