Two Poems from our Birthday Poetry Collection

SOMEONE STANDING

Author: Robyn Moyer

Poem:
SOMEONE STANDING

You've seen this person every day of your life
Gazing in confusion, like you did your first trick
What’s it for, how do I use it?
Will I be good, oh, I can’t refuse it
This person asks questions only you can answer
She wonders of her future, will it hold cancer?
Am I ready for life, am I ready for love?
Will my imagination take over, leaving me with God above?
Now she is 80, and still confused as to...
Who's that person standing there, straight in front of you?
A guiding light on a darkened day
You've made this your life; you've made this your way
Your life is complete, except for this bit
This mirror image mind is not your best wit
Before you were a candle, fireless, unlit
Now you are a burning bush, all questions are kaput!

INDEPENDENCE DAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA

Author: Elizabeth Price

Poem: INDEPENDENCE DAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA

Our nation has been a beacon over the years,
For the blessings of freedom,
And for the joys of peace

By those warriors, who have fought and fallen,
With patriotism, in the name of independence
For all people

July by July, sparkles evening nights,
As we pause to celebrate liberty,
With hope and inspiration

The skies light up but once a year,
Beneath the astonished stars,
With blasting colors

We gaze upon the lighted skies,
As a symbolic birth of our nation

Carrying the spirit of the sacrifices,
Of our brothers and sisters-in-arms

Glowing before our eyes with beauty,
With every blast heard in excitement,
We celebrate courageous acts

With every sparkle and color that glows,
The best of our nation, is reflecting,
The bold and the brave

From our founding fathers' message,
An enduring symbolic birth lights up,
The best of our nation,
The right to live free
