THE EYE OF A TIGER

Author: Emma Cattrall

Poem:
THE EYE OF A TIGER

  Staring at the tiger,
he and I, face to face.
If not for bars he'd hurt me,
in another time and place.
He's isolated from freedom,
in his eyes, so much hate.
His freedom snatched from him
by this black steel gate.
So strong, yet so helpless,
he stares at me, so cute.
I feel sympathetic remorse,
and my ears alter to mute.
I drift into his eyes,
a land of yellow and green.
I see what he sees now,
an audience so mean.
In his brain I see
a gift that we can give.
A life he's always longed for,
the life he used to live!
Back behind the bars,
I unlock, and set him free.
With another loving tiger
he very soon will be.
Off into the hills
he runs, and runs, and runs.
Then out come the zoo keepers
with their tranquilizer guns.
The tiger's eyes,
no longer filled with hate.
For that animal,
the zoo keepers are too late.

CHRISTMAS GIFT CAT

Author: Beverly Seawright

Poem: CHRISTMAS GIFT CAT

Soft and cuddly sweet, I am a Christmas gift cat
Christmas Eve night I'm dressed in my holiday hat
Quietly siting under the Christmas tree until dawn
I will not play with paper, string or yarn,
Waiting for the children to awake with bright eyes
I know I'm somebody's Christmas gift surprise!

Wrapped around my neck, a pretty red and white bow
Safely sitting in my gift box, away from the snow
Even though I may not be big for a cat's size
I know I am somebody's Christmas gift surprise!

I won't chase the mice as much as I like to
If I get dirty, someone may ask, "What happen
to you! To mess up my gift wrapping wouldn't be wise.
I know I am somebody's Christmas gift surprise!

As I sit, waiting for Christmas morning's dawn
I'm getting tired and sleepy, starting to yawn
Trying to stay Merry and Bright for my new friends,
my joy and friendship I will gladly extend
Christmas morning there will be no sadness or cries.
I will bring love and joy to all,
because I am the best Christmas gift cat surprise!
