FORSAKEN PARADISE

Author: Michael Fearon

Poem:
FORSAKEN PARADISE

I stand atop a tower of old, where once surveyed a kingdom of gold,
People joked and people sang, they laughed, they loved, they cared,
No man was hungry, no man poor, strangers greeted with an open door,
Land of freedom, home of choice, paupers and nobles aired their voice.
In this land of stories told, virtuosity was not sold,
It came to people from their birth, until their soul returned to Earth,
No man was lost, no child scorned, and brides were by husbands adored,
To live amongst this holy land, was to hold the Goddess by the hand.

However peace was not to reign, like all other empires, the kingdom would fade,
Towers fell and warriors true, to the hands of those scarred anew,
Darkness flowed fast as the tide, no time for the children to hide,
They hurt, they broke, they ruined, they killed, and none could flee the dark blades chilled,
Chilled by hatred, chilled by malice, driven by the mighty avarice,
Freedom enslaved and Liberty bound, foundations of truth burnt to the ground,
Arrows flew and cannons fired, walls collapsed and armies tired,
Soldiers bold until the end, fell to the hand of that which they sought to defend.

I stand atop a tower of old, where once surveyed a kingdom of gold,
And shed a tear for innocence lost, integrity dead, all at the cost,
Of freedom life, love and hope, put to the sword, they couldn’t cope,
This eulogy and requiem, are all that is left in the end,
I long to revisit this land of art, which filled the hole in my heart,
But now my heart is frozen black, eternally I pray to go back,
I pray for angels to lift us up, and take us all back to the top
Until the very end of days, I plead forever for one last gaze.

I stand atop a tower of old, where once surveyed a kingdom of gold,
I weep atop a tower of old, no longer stands my kingdom of gold

BABY GURLS LIFE

Author: Jennifer Harvey

Poem: BABY GURLS LIFE

Wakes up to the radio
Gotta get ready, its time to go
Makeup, hair, breakfast time
Baby gurls gonna be just fine.

Day by day she follows her plan
Does whatever she possibly can
To reach her limit, to finally be free
To see what she could really be.

Does her work, never speaks
Keeps away from the math geeks
Honor roll, out of school
How could she of been a fool.

One boy, her best friend
Broke down the barriers and was let in
Months past, secrets shared
one boy, one girl, equally scared.

Meant to be, set free, one day we'll finally see
The love they shared, the magic made, Gods plan, true loves fate.

She loved him with all her heart
He kept her fomr falling apart
She lived her life to hear his voice
didn't react to any other noise.

Baby Gurl, out one day
on her way to see a play
mournful fate, deaths date
swirving, screaming, pearly gates

One week later all alone
he leaves the funeral to go home
without her now, left to live this life of his
wandering the earth, waiting, waiting for death to bring him to his one true love.
