She was taunted, He was shunned. They weren't good enough for us. We were better. We were ALWAYS better. At least, We thought we were. Then they came back With death. Death went into us, Consuming our bodies, Our minds. Our empty souls. Our bleeding hearts. They heard us screaming. But they didn't care. They had ben silently screaming their whole lives. We couldn't hear it, But we saw it. The pain in their eyes, The hurt. We ignored it. And now we suffer. We feel the pain they felt. But we'll never truly understand. Because even as death pierced through us, We still thought we were perfection. Idols. And they were the imperfection. The failures. But their imperfection. Was the morbid perfection of life. |

HOMELESS MAN |

He huddles in a doorway clothed in layers of scavenged oddments. Withered hands clutch filthy sacks to a gaunt body to stave off bitter cold. In his eyes the ache of many concrete doorways like this one. © Andrea Da Costa
