May 1, Labor Day

a writing by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen

Today is Saturday. All over the world this day is celebrated by marches on the streets, people bearing flags and delivering speeches--speeches on labor rights, speeches on criticisms on government laws and what are deemed to be excesses, speeches on bringing the government system and the economic order into the right direction with the participation of all, including the most marginalized.

Today is the first day of May and we have witnessed the same phenomenon year in and year out. What is valuable is to remember that workers throughout the world are the life blood for every country and society. And they deserve the right to be heard and to be taken seriously.
