JUDGE COMMENTS: “A very poignant poem that tells the story of a soldier, indeed, one of the unsung heroes of Long Tan, and the lasting effects of his Vietnam experience on him. The grief and sorrow is on-going not only for the soldier, but also for his wife. The poem also reveals a nation’s historical moment in time, and the social disgrace of a government and some people that rejected its soldiers after being conscripted and sent to fight in Vietnam.

“Instead of honour he deserved,
from this great country that he served,
all he got then were snarls and curses;”

The poem is an indictment not only on the government of the day but on those people who booed the soldiers in Flinders Street. It should never be forgotten. Well structured, the poem flows with good rhyme and rhythm throughout. Congratulations to the poet for creating a poem that not only moves the heart but captures history. Well done.”

JUDGE COMMENTS: “A very moving write. Food for thought, and original in its concept which is expertly captured by the poet’s skill. Well structured with excellent flow in its rhyme and rhythm it is a poem that causes the reader to pause and consider LIFE.”

“It's then this thought pops in my head and I wonder if God's plan
Is to send down bands of angels disguised as dregs of Man
To see how we respond to them and how we treat their plight;
To see if we can help them through another lonely night.”

This is a verse to stir the social conscience! Congratulations to the author. Well done!

3. “In The Silence Of My Heart” by John George Williams of Canada

JUDGE COMMENTS: “A very moving poem that flows beautifully. It captures the feelings and emotions of the human heart perfectly to be able to finish with the words that inspire hope....

“I have made peace
with all my defeats,
all my transgressions,
all my past loves
and all my failures “

Congratulations to the author for creating such a wonderful, poignant poem.”

The winner, Paul, is eligible for a $25 paypal payment when a paypal email address is provided.

All poems were read by three independent judges. Each judge could reward a star to a poem that was read if they thought it was a top poem. All poems that received one or more stars from the judges were then classified as finalists. The Finalists were then read and reviewed again in a final round of judging to then choose the top poems.

Thanks again to everybody. Great Job!
