Monthly Writing and Poetry Contests to be Discontinued

Dear Members:

With mixed feelings, we announce the end of our monthly poetry and writing contests. The month of August 2012 will be the last month for each contest and the last winners will be announced by September 15, 2012. We will stop taking new submissions right away. originated in 2002 and we have enjoyed a great rapport within our 90,000+ network of fellow writers. There have been many changes, updates and upgrades along the way, and we trust the best is yet to come!

Our future focus will be to encourage and educate all writers.

We would like to thank all of our volunteers, who have helped make the monthly contests what they are for years. Extra special thanks must go out to Thelma, Rajaram, Marcia, Nancy, Muhammad, Sathee, Jackie, Jessie, Liza, Rayna and many others for your help along the way and especially to our long-time fabulous Poetry Contest Director Gail Kay.

Members and Friends: keep posting your poetry, your short stories, your rants, your blogs and other submissions to the website for responses and reads from others. Remember that the poetry contests were only a very small part of our thriving community. This move will strengthen this community in the long run.

Keep watch on the website for upcoming changes and improvements and please know that we are striving to make your experience with even more rewarding.

Thanks you

JJ Humphrey & The VoicesNet Team

Sanjana ButalaI wish you would continue the contests. They were a great way of finding where we poets stand in today's community. Please tell us when you shall be starting new ones. I would be happy to join them. I would also like to request you to add some more larger courses that would help us enhance our writing some moreIndia9/23/2012 2:47:43 AM
HadisHey! I've just got familiar with the website and was very happy to be able finally to take part in a poetry contest! wish you'd open another contest later. Best of luck9/1/2012 4:31:36 PM
GAIL KAYMany thanks JJ for the years of work and commitment you have given to us the poets and writers of voicesnet. It has been a privilege and joy to be the poetry contest director for the past few years. The poems and writings have been inspiring and a pleasure to read. We all have a feeling of gratitude to you for giving us the forums in which to post our work and get feedback. The response facility on all the posts is a great way to get the feedback and I am sure that we will all grow as writers because of your wonderful page here. We can safely encourage our children and friends to post their writing creations in here knowing they are in good hands. God bless you.AUSTRALIA8/31/2012 12:22:33 AM
O.K can understand the immense nature of running and keeping alive this site alone..and to think of how accidentally i stumbled on to it..searching for children's poems for my granddaughter and ending up entering mine and then surprised i was competing..and the progress and growth..and meeting of so many wonderful, wonderful souls..thank you for all that you mean..Love and regards rita singh.8/27/2012 2:46:36 AM
Nishu Mathur It's ironic, the first time I ever sent a poem for a competition. Took me over a year to gather the courage to send one...but it's alright. I love writing anyway and will continue to do so. I know I have learned a lot thank you for all the effort that is put into the site. Warm wishes, Nishu India8/27/2012 12:15:22 AM
Wm WillisTo All The Voices Net Team, sorry to hear that this part of the website is coming to an end.The site will evolve and by the sound of it, hopefully our writing will too. Thanks for the memory, I will miss it.You all do a most wonderful job ! wm.Scotland8/24/2012 7:40:19 PM
linda terrellThe monthly contest might have drawn in new writers in past years, and I agree that it is not the heart of the community of JJ. Each and every writers need to write is, however. It is the love of writing that we all have in common that brings about the strength and the success to all writers and the site its self. I am so glad that you are striving for more education within the site. We as writers and poets are all craving to improve on our writing. I thank you and the others for your great efforts that has allowed us to express our creativeness, to share and create poetry and other writings on this amazing site. Bless you all. Dwayne RankinSorry to hear this but do understand. it has been going on for a long time. I have enjoyed reading the ones picked as the best of the month in the contests. Hope that you can keep the site up that has all the past winners on it.. I think that the whole team there has done a magnificent job judging these contests. I know that I could never do it. Too many good ones for me to try to chose who was the winner. USA8/24/2012 6:08:38 PM
Hema RaviDespite this, VN continues to be a wonderful site, a niche for poets from the world over! Thanks to you Jeff, the silent team behind you for the tireless service rendered all along....A big thank you to all.India8/24/2012 9:41:32 AM
Richard MoriartyI, too, understand your decision; but, I will miss the monthly competition greatly. I enjoyed the writings of all, and the opportunity to express mine. I thank you for giving all of us the opportunity and the challenge. USA8/24/2012 8:52:36 AM
Jacinta RamayahI enjoyed reading the monthly winning entries while the comments from the panel judges were relevant and inspiring. It must be a disappointing announcement though for many contestants. A suggestion - it would be great if the VoicesNet team could give their own comments on some of the poems sent in (especially if the poems are laudable). Thank you, Mr JJ Humphrey and the VoicesNet Team for providing us with a wonderful venue for our poems.Malaysia8/24/2012 1:57:08 AM
Elizabeth Padillo OlesenI can understand this decision. Thanks for the great contests. I hope that with this decision more and more poets will give time to write their responses, rate the poems they have read and be honest to give comments.Yes, positive comments but also positive comments that may suggest the need for improvement of the submitted poem. Just a suggestion. Denmark 8/23/2012 6:25:05 PM
