Chapter Nine Part Two

a writing by Skye Kerri- Leigh Bagshaw

“Because I was scared and overcrowded. I’m still practicing my powers.”
“Why were they like that?”
“Because they find teasing girls in crowds funny.”
“That’s not funny. It’s weird.”
“Tell me about it. I’m glad I’m not one of them.”
“Who are you? Did they call you Rosie?”
“Yes. I’m Rosie. And I’m not exactly human. I’m a witch.”
“A witch?”
“So witches have small bodies, large green eyes and brown hair?”
“Are you making fun of me?”
“No I’ve just never heard of a witch species before.”
“Species?” she laughs. “There are lots of witches but we don’t look the same. Anyway who are you?”
“I don’t know.” I turn to go away.
“Don’t leave. I don’t even know your name.”
“You don’t want to. It’s all a lie.”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m a robot called Fire King. That’s what they say. But I know they’re wrong. This isn’t me. I’m trying to find out how to become the real me.”
“Well I can help you. You saved my life.”
“They wouldn’t have killed you would they?”
“Maybe. It sometimes happens intentionally or by accident.”
“I don’t think you can help me. I don’t think anyone can. And no one is supposed to know I exist.”
“Well I’m not going to tell them am I? I’m a witch. We non- humans have to stick together don’t we?”
“I suppose so.”
“Well I guess you’re my new friend. Well first friend.”
“What’s a friend?”
“Someone you like and who likes you and you look out for each other.”
“I’ve never had a friend either so it’s a first for me too.”
“That’s sorted then. Where do you live? So I know where to visit you?”
“I don’t. I move around hiding behind things. Normally unnoticed except today.”
“I’ve got a shed. Do you want to live there? I would say my room but your feet might break it and the ceiling is short so it would be set alight a lot. The shed doesn’t have those issues.”
“Wouldn’t anyone mind?”
“God no. My family is magical and they’ve been hoping I will make a friend. Now I have. They will be so happy.”
“Thank you. You’re very kind.”
