a poem by Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Montik, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

I know you saw her smile but

You just shrugged off her greeting

And walked away before someone

Else could see that bright hello.

Every time you see her those

Confused green eyes ask you why

You told her that you loved her

When there always was another girl.

She doesn't ask much of you

Only an answer so that her broken

Heart and shattered dreams could

Become a part of who she used to be.

No longer does she smile and

Her cheerful giggle has disappeared

Looks at the ground when she walks

And only you know why she has changed.

Now you stand here dressed in your

Best black suit as you listen to the preacher

Tell you that is was just an unfortunate

Car accident but you know better.

Her face holds peace once more

But its fakeness accuses you as

Your tear apologizes and with broken words

You say goodbye to your green-eyed girl.
