a poem by Kristine J. Trudeau, USA

(Dedicated to the one I hurt in my youth.)

Each time I see your face I am reminded,
Not of pleasant things,
But of the hurt I caused you.

Would I, if I asked your forgiveness,
Stir up memories you chose to forget?

Would I, if I asked your forgiveness,
Only cause you hurt, again?

My heart can not rest until I say this, "Please forgive me."

I left you in the wake of my disaster.
I cannot undo the past.
I can only beg your forgiveness,
And pray the damage did not last.
