THE BIG HOUSE

a poem by Gail P. Kay, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

( The Big House was what we called the old family home.)

The Big House is gone?
Sold so fast?
Seventy years gone,
All the family past!
The voices, the laughter
The sound of tears
Swirl and echo
Down the span of years.
The Big House
Was not just wood
It was the love it contained,
The hearts so good!
It was the people
Who made the big house strong
Without Rhoda in it
The Big House is gone!
Her welcoming smile
And her loving arms
Reaching for the family
Was the Big house’s charms.
