Jesus is Knocking, But There's Nobody Home

a poem by Kristine J. Trudeau, USA

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20

Verse 1:
Down the street, Jesus comes walking
He turns on the street of a home.
What will He find when He knocks on their door,
will there be anyone home?
Will they come running to meet Him?
Will they be glad He’s there?

House after house, He finds empty.
When He walks down Possession Street,
a note is tacked upon each door:
“Sorry, we’re gone from home.
“We’ve gone out buying and selling,
“possessions have taken our care.”

Chorus 1:
Jesus, Jesus is knocking.
Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
but there’s nobody, nobody home.

Jesus, Jesus is knocking.
Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
but there’s nobody home in their heart.

Verse 2:
House after House, He finds empty.
When He walks down Entertainment Street,
a note is tacked upon each door:
“Sorry, we’re gone from home.
“We’ve gone out to play,
“entertainment has stolen our time.”

(Chorus 1)

Verse 3:
House after house, He finds empty.
When He walks down Self-Sufficiency Street,
a note is tacked upon each door:
“Sorry, we’re gone from home.
“We are working over-time,
“making a living is important, you know.”

(Chorus 1)

Verse 4:
House after House, He finds empty.
When He walks down Tolerance Street,
a note is tacked upon each door:
“Sorry, we’re gone from home.
“We’ve gone out to buy rose-colored-glasses,
“compromise invited us next door.”

(Chorus 1)

Verse 5:
House after house, He finds empty.
When He walks down Immorality Street,
a note is tacked upon each door:
“Sorry, we’re gone from home.
“We’re looking for someone new,
“sorry, it couldn’t be you.”

(Chorus 1)

Verse 6:
Jesus, stands knocking. He knocks, waiting,
He knocks on the door to your heart.
What will He find when He knocks on your door,
will you be waiting there?
Will you come running to meet Him?
Will you be glad He’s there?

Chorus 2:
Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
Will you be home? Will you be home?

Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
Jesus, Jesus is knocking,
Will you be home in your heart?
