UPON A BARREN ROCK

a poem by Gail P. Kay, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

Depression smothers life
And the soul feels
As if it gropes its way
Through a fog so bleak
And thick
It cannot breathe
Or even cry aloud
Or seek
For help.
Depression isolates
And strands a soul upon
A barren rock
That cannot help
It find the sun
For its isolation is total.
It makes one feel
Always alone
In every crowded room
Til soon
There is no light
To guide the weary soul
As it begins to grope
its way to
Hope.
