Stranger Through Time

a poem by Pushpalata Venugopalan, India

Time departed
And others followed
But I stopped

to drink deep of the spring,
to feel close to my heart
the warmth of the sheep;
to embrace the hill and the vale
and to play the games that little children play!

So when time did catch me
I found-
the others strangers,
they did not my interests share,
their source of passion too differed,
their heights of passion I could not attain
A stranger I was, a stranger I remain!
