a poem by Pushpalata Venugopalan, India

I wish I could make the world
A better place for you to live;
Another home for you to shine
Where joys abound and sorrows cease.

I wish I could be with you forever,
Wipe those tears before they appear,
Guide you through the thorns of life
And always see you bubbling with life.

But Alas! Life is so short!
I can walk with you, but only so far;
The rest you must travel alone,
For that is the way of life my child!

For that is the way of life, my child,
You must your own life live,
Experience the joys and sorrows
That He has in store for you.

I can watch you but from afar,
Share your pain and feel your joys;
But still inside me a voice echoes
I wish I could, I wish I could….
