PLAYING GAMES WITH THE WEATHER

a poem by Jacinta Ramayah, Malaysia - poetry writer, author, poet

The weather plays hide-and-seek with you,
It cares not for your plans,
You’re dressed on a date ready to go,
Torrential rains ruin your chance.

You’re at a picnic having fun and games,
A sudden shower comes pouring down,
The sun decides to peek through the clouds,
Your picnic basket lies soggy on the ground.

You are on the deck of a sailing ship
The breeze and the fish keep you company
The skies abruptly open and lightning strikes
You’re tossed like a doll on an angry sea.

Your wet raincoat is plastered to your skin,
You can’t see through the visor the road ahead,
A mile later you pass a dry and arid town,
The children point and laugh at you instead.

So keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer
If you need fine weather to go on a trip,
But if that fails and your plans go awry,
Just snuggle under a blanket and go to sleep.
