WALKING AWAY

a poem by Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Montik, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

I loved you with my entire heart
but that wasn’t enough,
you threw me out and walked away
not caring where I landed.

That night I watched you walk away
and I just lay there hurt and broken
while my heart kept calling out your name
hoping that somehow you would hear it.

My last glimpse of everything that I desired
was the laughing profile of your fading back
and as soon as you were gone completely
the storm clouds broke and the tears rained down.

I’m not lying there anymore,
I have gotten up and pushed away the pain
and though it’s impossible to forget you,
I can still stand up on my own and walk away.
