Writing Tears

a poem by Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Montik, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

What if I could write tears
and place all of the hurt and
pain on the curves and lines
of every single letter.

Would that make me forget
all of the hatred burying me
under a heavy blanket of
bitterness and sadness?

If the black ink or dull graphite
could cry for me and soak
up all of my frustrations and
all of my ugly thoughts.

Would that help me forgive
them for crushing my faith
and for hating me until
I too despised myself?

What if the pen in my shaking
hand could take back every
mean remark I made and every
ugly glare that I gave.

Would that help them forgive me
and would that make them accept
me as I am with all of my
mistakes and imperfections?

If only I could write tears
and let the black ink cry for me
and let the pen take it all back,
maybe then I could be happy.
