a poem by Jacinta Ramayah, Malaysia - poetry writer, author, poet

He met her on the green, one morning in May,
“May we always be together,” he told her that day
“Day dreams are for foolish people,” he heard her say
“Say no more,” she cried. ”Our love is forbidden anyway,”
“Way over yonder is my home, with my man and child I stay”
“Stay with you and leave them would mean there'll be hell to pay
“Pay with loss of family and happiness; my whole world would be grey”
Grey and teary were his eyes as she left him; alone and heart-broken he lay.
