a poem by Lee Emmett, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

holy Spirit comes with angels
as Christ incarnates on earth
in lowly stable under bright-star east
from womb Virgin Mary gives birth
in sacred life Jesus blesses and loves
every man, woman, child and beast

as moon fills in equinox sky
he calls twelve faithful together
at final feast he proffers bread
‘remember, this is my body’
passes round holy chalice
‘and this my blood’ he said

Christ’s blood spills, his body is
nailed to a cross, and on third day
people fall down at his empty tomb
heavenly Spirit returns, resurrection
is promise, Christ’s sacrifice pardons
human sin and offers eternal salvation
