SIBLINGS

a poem by Lee Emmett, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

she’ll always be little sister
there’s no way around it
but he doesn’t need to step
in and do anything about it
nowadays they see each other
as extra special close buddies
the pressure of responsibility
no longer relationship muddies
both work in the city and they
often meet for meal or drink
share news and offer support
hear what the other one thinks
in some ways they’re different
as silver moon and sun of gold
but they’ve found new closeness
enjoy life more as it unfolds
very gratifying for mother to see
two siblings growing together
standing side by side to help
through the roughest weather
