When Pain Got in the Way of Love

a poem by Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Montik, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

When pain got in the way of love
I was ready to walk away,
but something held me close to you
and I just stood there crying.

Maybe it was the way you looked
that kept me there that night,
because your missing smile hurt,
more than the pain of fighting.

At that moment you had seemed,
so tired and confused,
and I wished with all my heart,
that I could take back what I said.

No matter how upset I get
or what we fight about,
I’m always gonna love you baby,
because that’s what I do best.

Yes pain got in the way of love
and blinded me that night,
but in the end as always is,
love came out that much stronger.
