Daddy Don't Forget

a poem by Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Montik, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

I was Daddy’s little princess,
we had so much fun together,
everything was perfect,
but then he started to forget.

Daddy don’t forget
to tuck me in tonight,
you didn’t yesterday
and I couldn’t fall asleep.

I barely see you anymore,
Mommy says you have been busy,
working very hard so that
you could take care of us.

Daddy don’t forget
to come home from work tonight,
so Mommy wouldn’t have to
stay up waiting so long again.

I haven’t seen you all week Daddy,
me and Mommy miss you.
I started kindergarten today,
and I want to tell you all about it.

Daddy don’t forget to love me,
I promise to try harder,
not to make any mistakes,
just so you won’t leave us.

When she thinks I’m sleeping,
Mommy starts to cry,
she told me you still love me,
and that I’ll always be your little girl.

Daddy don’t forget me,
Mommy told me everything,
how you and her just grew apart
and how you found someone else.

You moved so far away today,
I won’t see you till next year.
Please don’t forget me Daddy,
I’ll be here waiting.
