A Tribute to Sandeep Unnikrishnan

a poem by Sheela Chalapathi ramananda, India

The nation grieves for its brave son
who was a disciplined young man.
His love for his great nation
was his only driving passion.

Transcending all other factors
it urged him to fight the perpetrators
of death,bloodshed and violence,
who came hoodwinking the forces of vigilance.

Locked up in a brave fight
with terrosists on a dark, sinister night
this pride of the armed forces
died a heroic death fighting the evil forces.

Trying to wake up her only child
the shellshocked mother blows kisses mild.
Patting him and stroking his face
she goes back to his chilhood days.

To her he is not the soldier brave
but her only child whom she could not save.
Unmindful of the curious media glare
She tries to bring him back from death's snare.
