a poem by Thelma Elizabeth Zaracostas, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

My Neighbours

I have such wonderful neighbours
When I moved south many years ago
Even though had family close
Did not know another soul

They are there in times of need
Reminds me of when I was a child
Neighbours always found the time
To check to see if all was fine.

They even take washing off the line
Will bring in the garbage bins
If you don't have time.
Don't mind feeding the dog and cat

So I think that here is where I will
Stay, with neighbours like mine,who
long walks along the coast line
Dinner and a bottle of wine!

I think I will be here for a long long time.
