THE TREASURE CHEST

a poem by Drsudarsan Damodar Prasad, India

My treasure chest of memories-
Have many pleasant faces,
Some happy faces,
Loving faces,
Adoring faces,
Absorbing faces,
Soulful looks,
Longing faces,
Pleasures of waking,
After a night of bliss-
And eloquent notes,
Of a love-filled union.

The most treasured gem-
Will be the first look,
Of a nascent love,
Before the seedling grew up
To become an ever-green tree,
Spreading a canopy of green,
Sheltering a pair-
Of doves ,
An inimitable pair!

It has provided-
Shelter and shade
To wayfarers , lovers,
Poets pricking their ears,
To hear love notes in the air,
And dreamers lost in a reverie,
Of their promised magic land.
