Violent Silence

a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

We seal our mouths
with herbs of bitterness
and drown the words
which communicate.

We let our cold silence
creep in our midst
and let the days
nurture the hurts
that have been long kept
in the cupboards
of our own memories.
