Love, When You Called Me By My Name

a poem by Rani Turton, France

Love when you called me by my name
I turned away;
Not because I was afraid,
I walked on the straight road, rapidly
Simply to avoid that atrocious pain.

Love, when you called me by my name
Your accent was strange and foreign;
Far from all I had known,
So I walked on as fast as I could
The road was slippery in the rain.

Love when you called me by my name
I paused; I faltered and then

I decided to confront the pain.
