THE CHILDREN’S DAY

a poem by Oredola Olamilekan Ibrahim, Nigeria

THE CHILDREN’S DAY
Today the splendid sun has shone
Lending credence to our drowning hope
To declare us of the golden future time
When we shall sit and sense to lead
The leading of our youthful vision.

Since the grave is a must rung place
And the laid egg must swagger one day
The peak of a thousand mile; begins a step
A vital step to be place with care
The care of a fate deciding preference.

Hearken to my call oh! You parents, guardian
We are the investment of the unchecked goods
Doubt is our acquiesce, good or bad
Yet, it is a must you buy the shares
The shares of a legacy worthwhile made.

And to the teachers of our building soul;
We thank and pray for your unstinting work
He who love the rose will get the spine
Work firm on us for your glory lies
The glory of a life fulfilling thought.

An appeal to one that sit on the Aso rock
And the political sequence of his aide;
Your notion to us may it turn
For in our hearts the golden future lies.
A hearts needing to weed and care.

To you, we children my caveat goes
Give a hub to your wits and stare
For to us lies the flaxen heart
To pilot the nation perchance to her credit height
The height of undreamt treasured state of yore.

For at present we gathered and far and near
To commemorate but our days of trust
For today as we stand and bop
Has made our focal point a sure target
The target of decades, all failing core.

We pray the God of the all part high
For His encomium blessings on us and all
And His divine knowledge for us to guide
Through out the days of our living life and
On this day, our day, the children’s day.
