a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

A year ago we heard the news
of your exit from this world
The world stopped the music
The youth replayed your voice.

The mourners recalled your time
from your childhood as five year old
to your teen-age years with your
own father as your agent and head.

You moved up and down
But then planned for your comeback
You practiced till your last breath
You died still as an artist in your chest.

We’d like to retrace your steps
to rewind your music
and your last words and court case
But whatever we do, you continue
to leave traces of goodness
which cannot be erased.

Michael Jackson,
you will ever dwell
in our sweet memories.
