a poem by Gebriel Alazar Tesfatsion, East Africa

The Gale

When you had to go
A gustily gale of Grief
Has invaded my heart.
(Broke open its portcullis,
Dislodged its inhabitants sublime--
Happiness, Hope, Faith and Love--
Rendering it desolate, forlorn.)
The Gale has brought with it,
Cloudbursts of tears
And I--and I drawn
In tears of my own.
