Our leaders

a poem by Joseph Chukwudiegwu Osita, Nigeria

See them drenched,
Under the communion of champagne.
Cracking laughter like claps of thunder;
With belly swollen up-ward to meet
The curiosity of gazing sky
While hunger eats our intestine.
Students study under the sharp arrows of mid-day sun
While there’s are bungled abroad
To measure heights with the moon
Jobless men jungle in jungle of despair
In search of job,hidden under their corrupt skulls.
They say we are in democracy
When we cannot scratch the infection eating our eyes
