BLESS THAT NOSE

a poem by Jacinta Ramayah, Malaysia - poetry writer, author, poet

Bulbous, straight, flat or hooked
they make or break one’s features,
neither eyes nor lips can change
the way noses do, our faces.

Beautiful roses in bloom or food
fit for the gods are joys lessened,
when their fragrance and aroma
are from our noses, imprisoned.

A voice that could sing so tender
if not for a blocked passageway,
sinusitis that explodes with ill-will
could wreck a pleasant day.

A snore to keep a spouse awake
may cause havoc or an irritation,
but ‘bless the sneeze that blows
without rhyme, yet with reason.
