a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

How do i talk,
in the land where gold does not rust
about my gold necklace
that gradually flirts with rust
at the base of my neck

How do i explain
that the peace i earlier boasted
was not peace but choiceless tolerance
when in the land i dwell
fore-talks are always believed

How do i
in the world i live now
convince my brethren
that the love in vogue now
is hardly strong and hardly selfless

In truth, these loves are often toppled
by rustles of invading challenges.
