I, Who Could Never

a poem by Rani Turton, France

Never, ever say out loud the hidden secrets
That nestled in my heart; never show
To the world my feelings out of pride,
Fear and psychological complications.

I, who could never
Simplify and codify. Whenever spring
Unfroze my heart I could sometimes
Softy sing; my fingers could pluck strings.

I, who could never
Say, speak, touch, weep
Will now patiently wait for the melody
That awakening hope brings.
