UTTER SURRENDER TO GOD

a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

Under the shadow of your wings
I seek shelter
At the click of the scissor
and the boring in of needles
into my flesh, oozing blood,
I call upon you.

I call upon you to restore
in me calmness and endurance
I call upon you to bless
every instrument
that touches my body
I call upon you to grant
wisdom to the doctors and nurses.

Under the shadow of your wings
I feel your warm presence
This room in this hospital becomes
a hallowed ground when invoking
your name of love, mercy and grace.
