Human Decay and Fragility

a poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen, Denmark

Human Decay and Fragility

Waiting for doctor’s diagnosis
Is the tissue for biopsy
Benign or malignant?
Can I live as normal
Without exposures to radiation
And more visits to hospitals?

Can I live a normal life
Without fear and anxiety
Of body’s own death and decay?
Why is there health or disease?
Why is there time to measure
The length of our life?

Humans are we
Who can boast of inventions
And mountains of explorations
But can never be masters
Over the length of our life.
