SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

a poem by Lee Emmett, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

school holidays
kids everywhere
wrapped in warm clothes
against cold air

playing, laughing
and having fun
so much to do
never walk, but run

buses in forest
disgorge tourists
clutching birdseed
firmly in fists

digital photos of
cockatoos feeding
some folk in restaurant
menus reading

some people venture
on mountain track
those scared of nature
soon turn back

local residents
enjoy wallabies
nibbling grass under
eucalypt trees
