you linger in my heart

a poem by Joseph Chukwudiegwu Osita, Nigeria

At darkened heart of the night

When sharp arrows of harmmattan bite the skin

Amidst the horrorful agents of the nights

I walked hopelessly around your grave, and have seen

The great armies of the land of the dead

Armed by the invisible present of your thought

That sings litanies of our past in my head

Against this nocturnal sound that eats my heart

From its crescendo to its diminuendo

Where in a deep prison of grief

That towered the height of Kilimanjaro

I cursed your death and your grave

That jailed your kiss and your flaming face

Would you ever but leave this place love hates
