a poem by Oredola Olamilekan Ibrahim, Nigeria

…to the WONDEROUS one

The orient sun this dawn she rise
In her full glory and brightness cries
Illuminating the world with her blessings much
And more still today, YOUR birthday torch.

The minute cavalcade in the parlour dance
And some merriment in real and trance
Today Wednesday your birthday turns
Glory be to God, the supreme don.

Stretch your palm and bow your face
I pray for God's blessings and honours pace
Your life in fecund flowing with Rose
In alacrity to fame you’ll rose.

Continue to rejoice oh! You shining star
Two hundred years is but a single year.
